Letter from the NACD New Jersey Chapter Chairman

Dear Members of NACD NJ,

We are off to a very strong start this fall, building off a very successful NACD Annual Conference.  In October, we kicked off our program year with a session featuring Chuck Underwood, a renowned speaker on generational differences.  This topic has high visibility in all of our boardrooms.  We had our largest attendance ever at a chapter event.  98% of the attendees rated the program excellent or very good.  Just this week, we held our second breakfast session updating our members on the upcoming proxy season and the new world of director elections.

As we look ahead, our upcoming programs are focused on relevant topics that each of us faces.  Our December 8 special dinner program (with holiday good cheer!) will discuss the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and its impact on a board and company’s risk profile.  This is often a hidden risk that we spend too little time thinking about.  Given the global environment that almost every company operates in, you need to hear the latest on this important topic.

Our first three 2016 programs will focus on CEO succession, Cyber risk and governance for small and midsize companies.  These are all topics that our members have asked us to discuss.

2016 promises to be another challenging year for every director and board.  We are all facing increased pressures and time demands along with increased personal risk. The governance bar continues to be raised higher and higher. NACD and your New Jersey chapter are dedicated to helping each of us be better prepared to implement our duties as directors.

You can easily register for all of our upcoming programs on our website.  Also check out the NACD national website for additional learning resources.  For members, the latest Blue Ribbon Commission Report on how a board can create long term value for companies is a must read.

I hope to see you at one of our upcoming chapter events.  We are always open to new ideas for programs, speakers or directors who want to become more actively involved in Chapter Leadership.  Please don’t hesitate to call or contact me or Tony Buonaguro, our Chapter President.

Best wishes for a happy holiday season!
